Abstract

This study aims to develop digital comic-based learning media to enhance students' learning interest in Social Studies (IPS) at the elementary school level. The lack of student interest in learning Social Studies is often caused by monotonous and unengaging material presentation. Digital comics, as interactive visual media, are considered capable of visualizing abstract Social Studies concepts in an engaging and contextual manner. This research employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research subjects were fifth-grade students at a public elementary school in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. The results demonstrate that the development of digital comics significantly increases students' learning interest, as evidenced by the improvement in learning interest scores before and after media implementation. Expert validation of both content and media indicates a very high level of feasibility. The digital comics integrate narrative texts, illustrative images, and simple animations, effectively capturing students' attention. Moreover, the use of this media enhances students' understanding of key Social Studies concepts, such as social diversity, economic interaction, and environmental issues. It is concluded that digital comics serve as an effective alternative medium for teaching Social Studies at the elementary level.
