Abstract

The purpose of this research is (1) To find out the role of investigators in uncovering a murder crime using the fingerprint method. (2) To find out what obstacles are faced by investigators from the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit in the investigation process to uncover a murder crime using the fingerprint method. In conducting this research, it was conducted in the jurisdiction of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit, the reason the author chose the research location in the jurisdiction of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police because all murder cases made by the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit were reported so that the data obtained by the author was more accurate. Research Results (1) The role of fingerprints in the investigation process to uncover a crime is to simplify the investigation process and find the suspect through the steps that have been regulated in the law, the main ones being cases where the suspect is not yet known (dark cases). Fingerprints will be developed by investigators in the investigation process by identification officers as evidence of clues and fingerprints found at the crime scene are formulated so that they become written evidence in the form of fingerprint forms. And at the time of the trial, expert testimony evidence was submitted by the identification officer regarding the fingerprints found. (2) That there are inhibiting factors that affect the implementation of investigators' tasks in carrying out the fingerprinting process at the crime scene, including: Internal factors, the limited number of identification officers at the Muna Police who have taken identification courses so that they are not skilled (professional) in the fingerprinting process at the crime scene and External factors. The most dominant inhibiting factor is the incomplete status QUO (authenticity of the crime scene) which is a factor that is often caused by victims or the public who want to know what happened. So the crime scene has been contaminated due to the public's lack of understanding about the role and meaning of the authenticity of the crime scene.
