Abstract

The purpose of the study was to review the criminology of traffic violations in Kendari City. This study was conducted in the Kendari City area as one of the districts in Southeast Sulawesi province. The location of the study chosen was the Kendari Police. The reason for choosing the location of the study in Kendari City was because of the development of vehicle users and the large number of traffic accidents due to road traffic violations. In addition, the reason for conducting research in Kendari City was because of the high number of victims of traffic accidents due to road traffic violations and the lack of public awareness of the importance of completeness in driving in Kendari City. The types of data used are primary and secondary data from field research and library research. The data collection techniques used were interviews and documentation and analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study revealed that The factors that cause someone to commit a traffic violation in Kendari City are due to human factors (Human Error) which are divided into negligence of the victim, carelessness of the perpetrator, and legal awareness factors. Meanwhile, efforts made by law enforcement officers, especially the police, in overcoming traffic violations in Kendari City are pre-emptive efforts by providing counseling to all levels of society about the prevention and impact of non-compliance with traffic regulations, preventive efforts (prevention) namely the installation of traffic signs along the road as a guide for road users in order to create safety, security, order, and smooth traffic and road transportation, and conducting routine patrols, repressive efforts (action) aimed at providing a deterrent effect on traffic violators, and coaching efforts carried out at the Detention Center.
